Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D

I’ve never been a horror movie guy and therefore haven’t seen most of the classics. The most I know about Friday the 13th is Nikki Mijaj’s banger line “It’s Friday the 13th and guess who’s playing Freddy!” Turns out that Freddy isn’t even in this movie. Well played Mijaj. Well played indeed.

I haven’t seen a 3D movie in I don’t even know how long. At least 10 years. I couldn’t believe how fun it was watching this in a mostly full theater. Every single instance of 3D made me smile and laugh. I’m not sure if the technology advanced or I’ve just been missing out, but you just have to appreciate seeing someone’s eyeball popped out right at you.

The actual film is cheesy and campy. Every single slasher trope I could think of is in here. None of the characters are very likable. There’s not much to the story and dialogue. Despite all that, I greatly enjoyed the experience. I missed the first two parts so maybe Jason has more backstory, but it’s ultimately about a villain just killing everyone in different ways (most taking advantage of the 3D effects) till he’s in a final chase with the protagonist. Turning off my brain and enjoying that experience is what the movies are all about.
