I was extremely pumped to catch this in an empty theater after having just caught up with the latest season. Around 3 hours later and I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
First off, it’s extremely hype that the demon slayer corps are now all in the infinity castle and the endgame feels near. We got to see a couple fights in the film involving Demons #2, #6, and #3. The animation throughout was beautiful and flying through the infinity castle was mesmerizing.
My main gripe is that not enough happened and I wished for quicker pacing. If this movie was split up into episodes and I watched them from home it would have been great. However, I felt like the constant flashbacks drew out a lot of the fights and big moments. This was almost 3 hours of nonstop anime, so it needed to be tighter. I’m not one to hate backstories, but #3’s in particular had me wishing for the movie to end. It felt like 30 minutes of flashbacks for a character with a tragic backstory, but also uninspired.
The movie ends with a lot left unresolved and has me excited to pick it back up when the next season commences. Regardless, it’s hard to rave about the way we got there. I haven’t heard much discourse yet as I try to avoid reading others opinions before my reviews to remove bias, so I’m curious to see if others enjoyed it more.
