    Refuge Coffeehouse

Attached to one of the best cocktail bars in Houston is Refuge Coffeehouse. The Refuge aims to be just that. To be a refuge you need a calm, peaceful, and tranquil environment. Sorry Websters dictionary… I’m taken.

The inside instantly brings you there. Back to that fireplace in the wooden cabin feeling. I walked up to the barista and asked for the rec. He mentioned that all their syrups are great and go well in an iced latte. I saw a honey option and that’s all she wrote folks. When I thought it couldn’t get better he said he could add some cinnamon too.

It wasn’t too crowded and everyone inside was hard at work. I sat in a booth’d seat near the wall with the backrest a little too far back.

The drink came quickly and the honey syrup they used was perfect. It added flavor without having overwhelming sweetness. It strangely reminded me of banana and if you told me that was the flavor I’d have zero reason to disagree. The ice also didn’t take up a lot of the glass and I was able to consistently sip without finishing in 10 minutes.

One thing I hesitate to mention is that I noticed a roach running along the floor while I was seated. I get those things happen and it’s hard to control, but it definitely ruined my comfort level there and I left shortly after. Otherwise, really was a cozy place to settle down for a while.
