Tout Suite

New year new me. That’s what Tout Suite said when they changed locations to this new beautiful park adjacent spot. The old EaDo location was always a treat to visit and it’s a shame that they had to move, but they couldn’t have picked a better place.

Unfortunately, their new year’s resolution was dropped after the first day. We go up to the counter and it seems like they have one barista running the register and making drinks while another employee was bringing out food orders from the kitchen. When we were ready to order the non-barista ended up manning the register and it was clear he knew nothing about coffee. They have a lot of syrup options so I asked what’d go best with a hot latte and after hesitation he unsurely said vanilla. He also just felt uninterested and we both said later that he gave us the feeling he didn’t like us. I went with that while Amelia got an iced latte with butterpecan cold foam.

We ended up waiting around 30 minutes and noticed that a couple that went after us got their drinks. We originally thought it was slow because of the backlog of people and the main guy taking orders which took him away from making drinks, but it turned out our order was missed. I get stuff like this happens, but it just felt sad that a place that used to be so great and full of employees churning out drinks fell to this standard of care.

Our drinks were made and my vanilla latte came out iced. So far the vibes and energy just haven’t been great, but a great coffee cures all. Too bad for me because today I’m left sick. The drink is very bitter and the vanilla syrup just tastes like syrup. Nothing blends together and I really can’t do more than a couple of sips. Any more and I think I’ll have a stomach ache. It’s a damn shame, and the only saving grace is how beautiful a day it is to sit outside in Houston.

Lastly, we ordered a chocolate chip cookie to split. This place has always had good baked goods and the cookie looks tasty, so hopefully this one last chance can earn it some points. Once again, we were let down. It wasn’t horrible, but ultimately it tasted mid. None of the chocolate chunks were rich and the texture was cake-ie. We like either a chewy or crunchy cookie, but this wasn’t really either. I was left with the feeling that I’d have rather gone anywhere else, which is a damn shame for the location.
